Version 2.1 — November 2026
Capitan uses first-party cookies to operate its services, maintain access controls, remember choices and support website functionality. Some features also recognise returning visits, remember recently viewed products or control how often a popup is displayed.
Capitan’s own website does not use third-party or advertising cookies. We do not sell cookie information or provide it to other organisations for their independent marketing.
This notice describes cookies available within the standard Capitan platform. Only those relevant to the features enabled and used on a particular website will be present. Other businesses using Capitan are responsible for explaining their own use of cookies and any additional integrations.
Your current cookie preference
You can view and change the cookie preference offered by this website below. You can also inspect, delete or block cookies through your browser’s privacy settings. Blocking cookies may prevent login or other requested features from working correctly.
Cookies are small pieces of information stored by your browser. They can identify a session, remember a choice or help a website recognise a previous interaction.
Some cookies last for a browser session. Others have an expiry date and may remain after the browser is closed. Browser settings can affect how long they are retained.
Other browser-storage technologies can perform similar functions. Requirements to explain their purposes and provide any necessary choices also apply to those technologies.
The following cookies may be used where the corresponding platform features are enabled.
| Cookie | Purpose | Configured duration |
|---|---|---|
| PHP session cookie | Maintains the current session and supports functions such as authenticated access and in-session activity. Its name and lifetime depend on the installation’s PHP configuration. | As configured for the session. |
| COOKIE-OPTION | Records the main cookie preference for the website. | Up to 365 days. |
| COOKIE-OPTION-ADV | Records the preference for additional cookies where those features are offered. | Up to 365 days. |
| COOKIE-PROMPT and COOKIE-PROMPT-ADV | Records that a cookie prompt has been displayed or handled, to manage repeat prompting. This does not, by itself, record consent. | Up to 365 days. |
| LOGIN_AUTH | Supports validation and restoration of an authenticated session. | Up to 24 hours. |
| UID and USERNAME | Recognises a known account and supports account identification and session restoration. These cookies do not authorise access on their own. | Up to 365 days. |
| SS_SS_ID | Associates activity with a session and supports shopping-basket continuity where applicable. The identifier may also be associated with website activity records. | Up to 24 hours. |
| Cookies ending in -VB4 | Records months in which a visitor returns and distinguishes first and returning visits. The name includes an account identifier or a value representing an unidentified visitor. | Up to 365 days from the latest write. |
| ARTICLES-VIEW, DIRECTORY-VIEW, DOCUMENTS-VIEW, ECOMMERCE-VIEW, EVENTS-VIEW, KBASE-VIEW and VACANCIES-VIEW | Remembers the display layout selected for the corresponding module. | Up to 365 days. |
| RECENT_PRODUCTS | Remembers up to 20 recently viewed products. The list is associated with an account identifier or an unidentified-visitor value. | Up to 365 days from the latest write. |
| Cookies beginning POPREPEAT- | Records that a particular popup widget has been shown, to control repeat display. The suffix identifies the widget. | The number of days configured for the particular popup. |
These are configured maximum lifetimes when cookies are written. Some expiry dates are renewed when the relevant feature is used again. Cookies may be removed earlier by logout, account changes, browser settings or deletion.
Cookie expiry does not necessarily delete related server-side records. Retention of those records is addressed in the applicable Privacy Notice.
Cookies strictly necessary to provide a service you request may be used without cookie consent. This may include maintaining a login session or the contents of a shopping basket.
Other uses must either meet the conditions of an applicable legal exception or be based on valid consent obtained before the relevant storage or access occurs.
A cookie is not automatically necessary simply because it belongs to Capitan, supports personalisation or is grouped with essential cookies in the platform.
Visit recognition, browsing-history features and popup controls must be assessed according to their actual purpose. Where consent is required, continuing to browse or dismissing a notice is not, by itself, consent.
Use the preference control above to view and change the choices offered by this website.
Your browser also allows you to inspect, delete or block cookies through its privacy or site-data settings. Deleting cookies may sign you out, clear saved choices or cause the preference prompt to appear again.
Blocking cookies required for a requested service may prevent that service from working correctly.
Where a cookie requires consent, withdrawing that consent must stop the relevant future storage and access. Browser settings do not replace Capitan’s obligation to obtain consent where required.
A cookie or session identifier may be personal information where it can be associated with an identifiable person.
Our Privacy Notice explains the relevant use of personal information, lawful bases, recipients, retention arrangements and your rights.
Following a link to another website takes you to a service whose operator is responsible for its own cookie and privacy information.
A customer website using additional integrations or custom functionality may use technologies beyond those listed here. Its operator must explain those uses separately.
We will update this notice when standard platform cookies or their purposes change.
New uses requiring consent must not begin before that consent has been obtained.
